Reverse osmosis (RO)
A drinking-water system, usually under the kitchen sink, that pushes water through a fine membrane to remove dissolved solids and many contaminants, then stores the treated water in a small tank for a dedicated faucet.
Why is RO usually at one tap and not the whole house?
It produces treated water slowly and sends a portion of the water to the drain, so it is built for drinking and cooking water, not showers and laundry. It also needs a drain connection and, often, a line to the refrigerator.
