//Glossary
Water softener
An ion-exchange unit that removes the calcium and magnesium that make water hard, swapping them for sodium on a resin bed that regenerates with salt. It treats the whole house at the main line.
Does a softener filter the water?
No. It removes hardness only. Sediment, chlorine, taste and odor are filtration jobs. Many homes end up with a softener for the house plus reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink for drinking water.
//At Done-Rite
Done-Rite sizes a softener to the water test and the household, and plumbs it with a bypass for service. Water treatment pricing is quoted on site.
