Does your Laguna Hills home need new pipes?

It might if you're seeing repeat leaks, rusty water or weak pressure. Done-Rite inspects the pipes, explains what we find, and repairs or repipes Laguna Hills homes as needed.

Not every leak means you need a whole new system. Sometimes one bad fitting is the whole story. Other times, a string of small leaks tells us the pipe itself is wearing out. We'll help you sort out which is which. Done-Rite Plumbing & Rooter is family-owned, licensed, bonded and insured, and we also handle drains, sewer lines, water heaters and fixtures.

What are the signs you need a repipe?

The clearest signs are leaks that keep coming back, brown or rusty water, low pressure at several fixtures, and pipes that look corroded where you can see them.

Pipes don't last forever. Older galvanized steel rusts from the inside, which narrows the pipe and slows the flow. Copper is tougher, but it can get small pinhole leaks after many years. Once leaks start showing up in different spots, patching each one can cost more over time than replacing the system. Our guide to signs you need a repipe goes deeper.

Why is the water pressure low?

Low pressure can come from a clogged aerator, a failing pressure regulator, a hidden leak, or buildup inside old pipes. If only one faucet is weak, it's usually that fixture. If the whole house is weak, the cause is often in the main line or the regulator. Read more about low water pressure and what we check.

What is a pinhole leak?

A pinhole leak is a tiny hole that wears through a pipe wall. It may only drip, but it can soak drywall or flooring for a long time before anyone notices.

Is PEX or copper the better choice?

Both work well. PEX is flexible, quick to install and usually costs less. Copper is rigid, long-lasting and handles heat well. The right pick depends on your home and budget.

PEX is a plastic tubing that bends around corners, so it needs fewer fittings and fewer openings in the walls. Copper has a long track record and doesn't mind sunlight in exposed spots. We'll walk you through the pros and cons for your house. See our PEX vs copper repipe comparison for a side-by-side look.

How long do water pipes usually last?

It depends on the material and the water running through it. Galvanized steel tends to wear out first, because rust builds up inside. Copper usually lasts much longer, though high pressure or aggressive water can shorten its life. PEX is newer, so it has a shorter track record, but it resists scale and corrosion well. A camera or a pressure test can tell us a lot about pipe health without opening walls. If you're not sure what's in your home, we can check during any service visit. See our glossary entries for galvanized pipe and PEX.

Will a pressure regulator help?

Sometimes. Water pressure that's too high puts extra stress on pipes, fittings and appliances. A working regulator keeps pressure in a safe range. If yours has failed, replacing it can protect new and old pipes alike. We can test your pressure with a simple gauge on an outdoor faucet during a visit.

What happens during a whole house repipe?

We plan the new pipe routes, make small openings to reach the old lines, run and connect the new pipe, pressure test it, and get the work inspected.

A typical job goes like this:

  • We map where the water lines run and pick the cleanest path for new pipe.
  • We protect floors and furniture in the work areas.
  • We cut small access holes in walls or ceilings where needed.
  • We run new supply lines to each fixture and connect them.
  • We pressure test the system to confirm there are no leaks.
  • We pull the permit when one is required and set up the inspection.

Water is usually off only while we make the final connections. Learn more about permits in do you need a permit for a repipe.

How much does a repipe cost?

A whole house repipe runs $18,000 to $30,000, depending on the number of bathrooms. Financing is available with terms up to 10 years. See our repipe cost guide for what drives the price.

Can you fix just one broken pipe?

Yes. If a single pipe bursts or cracks, our burst pipe repair service fixes that section. We'll still point out any other weak spots we notice so you can plan ahead.
