What does toilet installation and repair cover?
Toilet installation and repair fixes toilets that run, leak, flush weakly, rock or crack, and replaces toilets that are past repair. Done-Rite Plumbing & Rooter handles toilets across Orange County.
A toilet that acts up is frustrating, and a leak can quietly damage your floor. Toilet problems rarely go away on their own. Done-Rite Plumbing & Rooter is ready to provide toilet installation and repair services, with 24/7 emergency service when a toilet problem can't wait.
What are the warning signs a toilet needs a plumber?
The five main warning signs are constant running, a weak or incomplete flush, leaks around the base or tank, rocking, and visible cracks in the porcelain. Catching them early saves hassle and money.
Why does my toilet refill when no one has flushed?
A toilet that refills or cycles on and off by itself usually has a flapper that isn't sealing, a fill valve that's off, or a float set too high.
You may hear a faint hiss or the tank refilling when no one has used it. Left alone, a running toilet wastes a lot of water, raises your bill, and wears out the parts inside the tank.
Why does my toilet take two flushes?
A toilet that needs two or three flushes usually has a partial clog in its built-in trap or farther down the drain line, or a bad fill valve that keeps the tank from filling enough.
A weak flush often comes before a full clog, and if the problem is in the main line, it can lead to a backup.
Why is water leaking around the toilet base?
Leaks at the toilet base almost always mean the wax ring has failed, or the flange, the fitting that connects the toilet to the drainpipe, is loose or damaged.
Puddles around the base, dampness when you wipe the floor, or a stained or soft floor are the clues. Tank leaks usually come from loose bolts, worn gaskets between the tank and bowl, or a crack. Any leak is worth fixing soon. Water can damage the floor, the subfloor, and even the ceiling below if the bathroom is upstairs, and damp areas can grow mold.
What makes a toilet shift when you sit down?
A toilet shifts when the bolts that hold it to the floor are loose, the floor isn't level, or the flange underneath is damaged.
A rocking toilet breaks the seal of the wax ring, which leads to leaks at the base. The movement also puts stress on the porcelain, which can crack.
Can a cracked toilet be repaired?
A cracked toilet rarely stays repaired. Even a small crack in the tank or bowl can spread and turn into a real leak, so replacement is almost always the reliable fix.
Cracks can come from something hitting the toilet, sudden temperature changes, or bolts that were tightened too much. Hairline cracks sometimes show up with a slow drip.
Should I repair or replace my toilet?
Repair makes sense when one worn part or a clog is the problem. Replacement makes sense when a toilet is cracked, keeps breaking down, or wastes water because of its age.
Which toilet tank parts wear out?
The flapper that seals the flush valve, the fill valve that refills the tank, and the handle assembly are the tank parts that wear out. Their rubber, plastic and metal break down over time.
When the tank parts can't seal or move correctly, the toilet runs or flushes poorly. Often we can replace just the worn part. If several parts are failing on an older toilet, a new, water-efficient toilet may be the smarter move.
What causes a stubborn toilet clog?
A stubborn toilet clog usually comes from too much toilet paper, something that shouldn't have been flushed, or waste buildup in the toilet's trap or farther down the line.
We clear toilet clogs with a toilet auger or drain snake. If the clog keeps returning or we suspect a sewer line problem, a video camera inspection can find the cause so we can recommend drain cleaning or hydro jetting. Our guide to the causes of a gurgling toilet covers a related warning sign.
When is an old toilet worth replacing?
An old toilet is worth replacing when it keeps breaking down or wastes water. Toilets 15 to 20 years old or more can have parts that are hard to find and often use far more water per flush than newer models.
A toilet that wasn't installed right, with a poorly sealed wax ring, loose bolts or a damaged flange, can also leak and wobble for years. For installation problems, we reset the toilet, replace the wax ring and tighten every connection. We install brands like Kohler.
What happens during a Done-Rite toilet visit?
A Done-Rite toilet visit starts with a 1-hour response and no trip charge. The plumber finds the cause, explains the options with no sales pressure, then repairs or replaces the toilet.
- Find the cause: Our plumber checks the tank, bowl, base and connections to find the cause.
- Explain the options: We explain what we find in plain language and walk you through your repair or replacement options, with no sales pressure.
- Repair: A repair might mean replacing a flapper, a fill valve or a wax ring, or tightening connections to stop a leak or a wobble.
- Or install a new toilet: Whether it's replacing an old one or part of a bathroom remodel, we remove the old toilet, check that the flange is in good shape and install the new one.
- Check and clean up: We make sure the toilet is level, sealed and flushing well before we leave, and we clean up when we're done.
Done-Rite toilet work comes with a 1 year minimum warranty on labor.
Can frequent toilet clogs mean a drain line problem?
Yes. If a toilet clogs often, the cause may be in the drain line, not the toilet, and drain cleaning can clear the blockage.
For repeat or severe clogs, a video camera inspection can show whether tree roots or pipe damage are to blame, so the problem gets fixed for good.

Fixtures, Faucets & Toilets questions
A running toilet wastes water and shows up on your next bill. It's usually a flapper, fill valve or float adjustment, which is a simple repair.
Yes. Bring your own faucet, toilet or shower valve and we'll install it. We'll also tell you up front if the part won't fit your rough-in before we open anything.
Usually a clogged cartridge or aerator, a partially closed angle stop, or scale in the mixing valve. On whole-house low pressure the cause is more often the pressure regulator or the supply line.
Yes. A toilet that rocks breaks the wax seal, and the leak goes into the subfloor where you can't see it. It should be pulled, re-sealed and properly shimmed.
