What is hydro jet drain cleaning?

Hydro jet drain cleaning sends water at very high pressure through a drain line to scour grease, scale, roots and debris off the pipe walls. Done-Rite Plumbing & Rooter provides hydro jetting across Orange County.

When your plumbing grinds to a halt with stubborn, recurring clogs, or several fixtures drain slowly at once, you're dealing with more than a simple DIY fix. Deep blockages like these need professional attention that goes beyond what a snake can do. Done-Rite is ready to bring hydro jet drain cleaning to your Orange County home and get your system flowing freely again.

What are the signs a drain needs hydro jetting?

The four signs a drain may need hydro jetting are clogs that return after snaking, several fixtures draining slowly at once, foul drain odors and gurgling from drains or toilets.

What does a clog that returns after snaking mean?

A clog that returns after snaking is the clearest sign of heavy buildup a standard drain snake can't fully remove. Snaking often pokes a hole through a blockage and leaves the rest stuck to the pipe walls.

The drain clears for a while, then the problem is back within weeks or months. Living with recurring clogs means constant hassle and the risk of a sudden full blockage.

Why are several fixtures draining slowly at once?

When several fixtures drain slowly or back up together, the blockage is usually in the main drain line or a major branch line, not a single fixture drain.

Your shower, toilet and kitchen sink may all drain slowly, or water backs up in one fixture when you use another. A main line blockage needs prompt attention because it can push sewage back into your home.

What does a rotten-egg drain smell mean?

A lingering rotten-egg or sewage smell from drains usually means food, grease, hair and soap scum have built up and are rotting inside the pipes.

The smell is often strongest after running water. The odor is a sign of unsanitary conditions, and the buildup behind it will keep growing toward a full blockage.

What does gurgling from a drain or toilet mean?

Gurgling is air being trapped and pushed through water in the drain lines, which points to a partial blockage. Air can't move through the system the way it should.

You might flush a toilet and hear gurgling from a nearby shower, or a toilet in another bathroom might gurgle when a sink drains. Gurgling leads to slow drains and, eventually, a full clog.

What causes deep drain blockages?

The four most common causes of deep drain blockages are fats, oils and grease, tree roots, "flushable" wipes and other non-biodegradable items, and mineral scale and sediment.

How does hydro jetting handle grease buildup?

Hydro jetting works very well on grease buildup. The water blasts away hardened deposits and scours the pipe walls back to their full width.

Cooking oil, butter and food scraps often get washed down kitchen drains. They harden as they cool, cling to the inside of the pipes, and build up in layers that narrow the pipe and trap other debris. Plumbers call this group FOG: fats, oils and grease.

Can hydro jetting clear tree roots?

Hydro jetting is often a good first step for root intrusion, because the powerful stream of water can cut through and wash away root masses. A camera check afterward shows whether the pipe itself needs repair.

Even a tiny crack or loose joint in an underground sewer line can let roots in. Once inside, roots grow into dense masses that trap waste.

Are "flushable" wipes safe for pipes?

No. Despite the label, most "flushable" wipes, paper towels and hygiene products don't break down well in plumbing. They clump into dense blockages that snaking struggles to clear.

Hydro jetting breaks apart and flushes away these stringy masses that cling to pipe walls.

Can hydro jetting remove mineral scale?

Yes. Hydro jetting breaks down and removes mineral scale and sediment, leaving the inside of the pipe smoother and cleaner.

Hard water carries dissolved minerals that can settle out over time and form rough scale inside pipes. Sand and sediment can also collect in low spots. Both narrow the pipe and give grease and debris something to grab onto.

How much does hydro jet drain cleaning cost?

Hydro jet drain cleaning at Done-Rite Plumbing & Rooter runs $650 to $850. Done-Rite offers a 1-hour response and no trip charge, and the video inspection is free with the service.

We explain what we found and give you clear pricing before any work starts.

What happens during a hydro jetting visit?

A Done-Rite hydro jetting visit has five stages: a camera look inside the line, an explanation of what it shows, high-pressure jetting through a cleanout, a second camera pass to confirm the pipe is clean, and cleanup.

  1. Inspect with a camera: We listen to what you've noticed and use a video camera to look inside the line. The camera shows the exact location and cause of the clog, whether it's grease, roots, foreign objects or scale, and lets us check the overall condition of your pipes.
  2. Explain and prepare: We explain what we found and how hydro jetting works, then protect the work area before we start.
  3. Jet the line: A special hose with a high-pressure nozzle is fed into the line, usually through a cleanout (an access point on the pipe). The nozzle sprays water forward and backward, scouring the inside of your pipes. Hydro jetting doesn't just punch a hole. It removes grease, scale, roots and debris that snaking often leaves behind.
  4. Confirm with a second camera pass: We run the camera through the line again to confirm the blockage is gone and the pipe is clean and flowing. We can show you what we see so you know what was done.
  5. Clean up: We clean up and share tips for keeping your drains clear.

Done-Rite backs its hydro jetting labor with a 1-year minimum warranty. You can read more about our drain cleaning services and how camera inspection fits in, and our guide to hydro jetting explained covers the equipment in more detail.

What if the camera finds pipe damage?

If the camera shows real pipe damage after the blockage is cleared, the pipe may need sewer line repair to fix its structure. Hydro jetting cleans a pipe but can't rebuild one.

For ongoing care, or just to understand what's going on underground, a standalone video camera inspection can be very helpful.
