//Glossary
Plumbing permit
Authorization from the local building department to perform specified plumbing work, followed by an inspection that confirms the work meets the adopted code. The contractor applies for it, the city issues it, and the inspector signs it off.
Which jobs usually need one?
Water heater replacement, tankless installation, sewer line replacement, trenchless work, whole-house repiping and gas line work usually or always do. Drain cleaning, hydro jetting, leak detection and most fixture repairs usually do not. If you are unsure, ask; there are many things that require a permit that you would not think of.
Who pulls the permit?
The contractor pulls the permit when one is required. The fee is passed through on the job and varies by city and by the scope of work.
//At Done-Rite
When a permit is required, Done-Rite pulls it. Permit cost varies by job, and the inspection is scheduled as part of the work.
