Cleanout
A capped access point on a drain or sewer line that lets a plumber run a cable, a jetter nozzle or a camera into the pipe without removing a fixture. Most houses have one outside at ground level near where the sewer lateral leaves the building.
Why does the cleanout decide the price of a drain call?
Access is most of the labor. With an exterior, ground-level cleanout the technician can open the cap, run the machine and put a camera down the line in one visit. Without one, the work has to go through a roof vent or a pulled toilet, which takes longer and gives the camera a worse view. That is why Done-Rite's $99 drain snaking applies to a qualifying drain with exterior, ground-level cleanout access.
What if my house has no cleanout?
Older homes sometimes have none, or have one buried under landscaping or a patio. A camera inspection can locate the line and a cleanout can be added, which makes every future drain call faster and simpler. Ask about it during the visit; it is a one-time fix.
